about the conference

The Charles E. Booth Preaching Conference came into being in 2011 to address the issue of dearth when considering the current trend in preaching, in general, and African-American preaching in particular. The absence of the pulpit prophetic in addressing the concerns that challenge our people necessitate such a conference.

The purpose of having the conference:

1. Keeping Passion in One’s Preaching

2. Christ-Centered Preaching in Contemporary Life

3. Building Relationships in the Preaching Fraternity

4. Strengthen the Preacher’s Devotional Life

5. Remaining True to the Sermonic Ingredients: the Wedding of Information and Inspiration

Reverend Dr. Charles E. Booth

Preaching the Gospel is a life calling for the Reverend Dr. Charles E. Booth,  Senior Pastor of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. “The pulpit is no place for personal opinion,” he said to attendees of the African American Leadership Workshop in 2007.  “The pulpit is the place for propagation of the Gospel.”  Dr. Booth has traveled the world preaching and teaching the Gospel.  He has also preached on college, university, and seminary campuses throughout this country.

Dr. Booth earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Howard University and his Master of Divinity degree from Eastern Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He earned the Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees.  The United Theological Seminary has honored Dr. Booth by sponsoring a preaching conference in his name – The Charles E. Booth Annual Preaching Conference.
